This is a tourist place that gathers the main colonial buildings and museums. It&#8217;s also very close to the bay. You can take walks, see areas of interest, eat at fancy restaurants, and enjoy the nightlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This area features colonial streets adorned by fully renovated old houses, so just being there is like going back 400 years. The city is related to the Tairona indigenous culture and the fact that Simon Bolivar \u2013the liberator of Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Bolivia, and Ecuador\u2013 died in the town in 1830. His place of death was Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, a museum located 5 km from the historic center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>Advantages of staying in the historic center of Santa Marta<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The museums and places of interest are within walking distance or are very near. The shore borders the center, and you can easily access the beaches \u2014 although I don&#8217;t recommend swimming there.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may visit Parque Bolivar and the Santa Marta Cathedral, two must-see places in town.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The hotel offer is extensive, and prices are affordable, cheaper than in El Rodadero. You can also stay at luxury hotels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The area still conserves the city&#8217;s architectural heritage, so you can submerge in the colonial atmosphere and get to know people during your nightlife plans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transportation and access to other parts of the city \u2013such as El Rodadero, Taganga, and the airport\u2013 is easy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Watch the sunset from the Santa Marta Marina.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>Disadvantages of staying in the historic center of Santa Marta<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I highly recommend staying in this area because it&#8217;s near the sea and there&#8217;s plenty of action at night. However, I warn you to take care if you plan to walk at night because this is not the safest place in town. It would be best if you also avoided lonely streets at night. All this stands between the ocean and the foothill of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This place is located 5 km south of the historic center and just 15 minutes away from the airport, which is also located on the shore, south of El Rodadero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This city within the city has become a very touristic and commercial area, full of restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, and plenty of nightlife to offer. El Rodadero is also ideal for business travelers. If you plan to stay during your &#8220;workation&#8221; experience, you&#8217;ll have all the services, facilities, and fast Internet connection of a modern city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-transform:uppercase\"><strong>Advantages of staying in El Rodadero, Santa Marta<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The gastronomic offer is abundant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is the place to go if you want to party at night.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is a relatively safe area, although you should take some precautions, like in any city in the world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have direct access to the beach.
