Mobility without barriersTecmic moves forwards to a decisive new phase in its company history

Tecmic has already travelled a long way and is an expert in the development of technological solutions to access the external economic activities from the inside of companies in real-time and automatically. Although this concept may seem a little strange at first, its applications could not be more commonplace. With Tecmic solutions, managers are provided with essential tools to make the most of processes and resources, resulting in a reduction of costs and consequently improvements in productivity. Ample evidence lies in its customer portfolio, which includes names such as Carris (Portuguese national railway), Transportes Luís Simões, CTT (Portuguese postal service), Portugal Telecom, Banco de Portugal and even the Portuguese parliament. A member of the group AITEC since 1988, one of the largest IT groups, Tecmic has developed and innovated incessantly, and is today the Portuguese leader for the solutions that it offers. "The stockholder reorganisation that took place in 2001 with the entry of BPI and the resulting increase of capital stock has made us even stronger", states José Maria Moniz, deputy administrator at Tecmic. Always faithful to their concept of bringing "The World Outside, Inside your Window!" Tecmic handles the entire process, from creation to implementation, of the systems that it sells, through its own human resources, technicians and its own materials. Based at Taguspark, in Oeiras, and with an annual turnover of approximately 2 million euros, Tecmic can and will take up new challenges, which is why it is working on its internationalization and already has representatives in Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland, Austria, Brazil and Germany. XTraN - Fleet Management
Tecmic's star product, XTraN is much more than a mere GPS tracking system. It is the most advanced professional fleet management system available on the market and its modular and upgradeable characteristics make it perfectly adaptable to a wide variety of activities.
Tecmic has won over the market leaders in a wide variety of sectors of activity, such as the Grupo Luís Simões (Distribution and Logistics), Carris (Passenger Transport), CTT (Express Service) and the Banco de Portugal (Transport of Valuables). As an example, we can refer to XTraN in its service pack for passenger transport (XTraN Passenger) used at Carris, which has been widely praised, resulting in Tecmic being invited to present its system at national and international events. The Carris, in order to improve the quality of its Customer Service, decided to implement a system which would allow the optimization of resources, making the service more regular, informing its passengers about wait periods and increasing the safety of workers and passengers alike. In order to meet these objectives, it needed a system which could guarantee permanent tracking, integration with the police force and immediate detection of mishap, as well as assuring the automatic direction of the driver and two-way communication between driver and Command Centre. XTraN Passenger is today one of the most advanced Fleet Management Systems for public transportation in the world. Yet another example is that of the Grupo Luís Simões, where Tecmic, with XtraN's service pack for Distribution and Logistics was the only Portuguese company to reach the final selection stage, competing with some of the largest European companies for this sector. The solution to be implemented at GLS aims at providing better support for logistics management, registering in detail the activities performed by collaborators. From the start of the service until the final delivery, XTraN informs you about the delivery status, collections, anomalies, etc., providing this information in real-time. XtraN is integrated into the company's general information system, allowing all agents and documents involved in the activity to be linked up. By implementing the XTraN system on its approximately 800 vehicles this year, GLS is aiming at the reduction of costs and the optimization of its backoffice system, in this way strengthening its already well-known leadership in the Iberian Peninsula transportation sector. Besides these sectors of activity, Tecmic has also developed service packs for the Construction, Technical Support and Rent-a-car sectors, and had been investing heavily in a solution for Law Enforcement and Emergency Forces. This product controls remotely and activates equipments and systems, namely vending machines, both automatic and electronic, measurement and telemetry equipment, etc. It offers a wide variety of features which allow the efficient, real-time display of alarms and events.
For example, we can see this solution applied at the CTT stamp vending machines, allowing the efficient management of vending machine maintenance and repair, since the manager is always kept fully informed about any malfunction (lack of stamps, full coin box, power failure, attempted burglary, etc.) SIGA - Access Management
Siga is Tecmic's Access Management and Assiduity Control system. It uses long distance detection by radio frequency technologies, merely requiring people or vehicles to pass by in order to be detected. Siga is a solid system, resisting the elements and any attempt at sabotage. It increases safety and optimizes information processing, reducing bureaucracy and the associated costs.
Far from being a "Big Brother", Siga includes, among other features, the capacity to track people inside buildings. This is what occurs at Unilever, where, since its 900 users were not always to be found at their regular workplace, receptionists had great difficulty in putting calls through. With the installation of Siga, that problem was solved. Ecogest - Ecofriendly Bin Management
Ecogest was created specifically for controlling ecofriendly bins, and its integration with the management of refuse collection vehicles is simple. The system allows all information to be "taken" to the control centre, making an intelligent collection possible, beneficiating users and cutting back the costs of the collection process.
